The French Satellite TV

Before we start discussing about the French Satellite TV industry, just what is satellite TV anyway?

Satellite TV (which is more formally known as satellite television) is television system technology where one telecommunications transmitter on Earth will send a signal to the satellite receiver of its partner satellite which happens to be orbiting the Earth at the time. The satellite's job is to amplify that same signal before shooting it back to Earth with their transponder. Such satellites are named geostationary satellites and only occupy space around the Earth called the Clarke Belt. One satellite has the capacity to cover around 40% of Mother Earth herself.

Harsh weather conditions may prevent the signal sent back by the satellite to be received properly by the Earth-bound satellite receiver dish. The subscriber usually has his own satellite dish for receiving those signals at home from the satellite TV service provider company. The dish is linked to the subscriber's home TV set via a coaxial cable line. To properly see the images sent via satellite signals, your TV has to be updated to this technology. The satellite TV service provider is responsible for maintaining the satellite TV service to end users like you.

If you chose satellite TV service over cable TV service, you may find that your satellite TV service seems to be more reliable at receiving TV channel content signals than the cable TV service. Generally, satellite TV signals broadcast much clearer images than cable TV signal broadcasts.

Satellite TV is like cable TV in that both aim to provide purely digital signal broadcasts. Your satellite dish is connected to your home TV with a coaxial cable – well, cable TV signals are also sent to your home TV with a coaxial cable. The difference is that with cable TV that would be one very long coaxial cable line linking you to the cable TV company's system. Satellite TV is less vulnerable to harsh weather because there is no long coaxial cable line to worry about – you just need to adjust the receiver equipment so that the satellite dish can catch the signals from the orbiting satellite. With cable TV, if the main coaxial cable line is on posts or underground, it remains vulnerable to weather conditions like strong winds blowing down cable posts, or water seeping into underground coaxial cable line networks.

Satellite TV technology has advanced so that you need a smaller satellite dish nowadays for catching broadcast signals. These much smaller satellite dishes can easily be fixed to a porch post or railing, or perhaps at the top of your house roof, and don't occupy much space and aren't very heavy actually.

The satellite TV Company makes money by charging you fees for installation and maintenance of your access. One disadvantage with satellite TV broadcast service is that you may have access to much less TV channels (compared to cable TV.) At the same time though, you save more money with satellite TV because the access service rates are much lower than those for cable TV broadcasting services.

In France, there are a number of satellite TV installation and service provider companies. One is Sky TV FR, which has operations in Brittany, France. This company claims to now provide satellite TV services to the whole Brittany region, as well as many other places in France.
